I started dyeing yarn for myself and a few custom orders, and now it's taken over!

Sheepy Time Yarns are each hand dyed with professional quality, low impact dyes for colorfastness and clear colors unless otherwise noted. Colorways are achieved through a number of methods, including dip dyeing, and hand painting.

Right now I'm really enjoying playing around with a multi-step technique of creating deep, rich, tone on tone colors. This technique produces non-repeating color variations, which means you get the same effect in the knit that you get in the ball, even, rich, color variations, without color pooling.

We have several base yarns that we use regularly (and will also occasionally produce special runs as we find new base yarns at good prices for you.)

	Sheepy Wool is a good, basic, 100% wool, worsted weight yarn, great for soakers. This yarn is our best combination of softness and durability, and comes at an affordable price!
	Sheepy Time Merino is a super soft, merino, worsted weight wool. This is the softest wool we could find and we just love it. Takes up colors well and is so soft you will want to pet it. It's somewhat less durable than Sheepy Wool, and if you put it on an active crawling baby you may see pilling, which is easily removed with a good sweater shaver.
	Sheepy Time BFL is a lovely heavy worsted/aran weight Blue Faced Leceister wool yarn. Soft with a wonderful springy quality.
	Sheepy Time Peace is hand dyed on Worsted base yarn from Peace Fleece. One of our favorite companies and one of our favorite yarns. A blend of Merino and Mohair, Peace Fleece is unmatched in our experience for durability. Works up as a heavy worsted weight. After dyeing, we treat and condition our Peace for extra softness.
	Sheepy Time Organics are just that, certified organic fiber. Exact fiber makeup varies, so check the listing.
	Sheepy Feet is a great, soft sock yarn, made of 75% wool and 25% nylon for durability.
	Silky Feet is a wonderful sock yarn with 70% wool and 30% silk, which gives it a great sheen and slinky feeling.

Natural Dyes

We are very aware of our impact on the Earth, so we started out wanting to work with only natural dyes. A little research has shown us that most natural dyeing methods are actually more toxic than professional acid dyes. Many natural dyes, while perfectly safe themselves, require toxic chemical mordants to fix them to the yarn, many that we are unwilling to use in our home. So all the natural dyes we use are either dyes that don't require mordants, or dyes that can be fixed with either vinegar, ammonia, or food grade alum, so you never have to worry about toxic substances in your Natural Dyed Sheepy Time Yarns.
