Wishes

So, here are some more things I want to make "someday"

THIS is the cutest little cabled baby/toddler sweater I've ever seen and Sean needs to have it.

There is a tank in my closet that is my absolutely favorite top except that it's red velvet which means I get to wear it what, twice? a year, maybe? So I have plans to deconstruct it and design a sweater.

I like this little tie on sweater, too

And I want to try this 2 at once sock pattern, since I have SSS (Second Sock Syndrome) But I am forcing myself to finish the cable socks first.

Our dog needs a dog sweater before it gets cold again, he has a very short coat and no tolerance to cold weather. Haven't figured out just what, yet.

Speaking of fall, I owe my DH a fair isle scarf because he saw the josephine's knotwork I put on the longies and he has to have it.

And I really want a corkscrew scarf, too....

This is of course not including all the patterns I have printed out here in my binder lol

And I have a million ideas for soaker variations. But I think I'm keeping those to myself!

meanwhile...

here's Max's shorties so far

Looking pretty cute, I think :)

I have nothing to knit!

I actually said that last week.

I'd finished several projects. I'd finished the lemon hat and shipped it off to person it was for.

I'd finished the soaker I was working on, and I was waiting on yarn or measurements for a few more.

So I wove in the ends of several more projects... a couple wash cloths

The Round Blanket....

(isn't it *beau*-ti-ful?)

(Spike likes the blanket)

I didn't feel like finishing a scarf or a sweater when it was 75 degrees. I have second sock syndrome and don't WANT to finish the cable socks.

My DH reminded me *again* about the fair isle celtic knot scarf I owe him... but I STILL don't want to knit a scarf in April.

Oh and check out what fairies did to my dishcloth... *sigh*

So I brought out the green chenille my daughter picked out ages ago and figured out what to make with it. We chose this pattern from Knitty called Bloom (modified to fit her size).

And while I was on Knitty I remembered that I wanted to make myself this Cozy because it's freezing cold at my work.

And I did dig out the striped tank to finish working on the ribbing so I can wear it this summer. Didn't actually WORK on it, but I dug it out... and I put the stitches back on the needle that fell off.

Then I remembered I need to pay back my dear friend for making me these awesome graphics for Caitie's birthday party, so I dug into the stash yarn for a head scarf. And I fiddled around for a whole day trying to figure out how to get the eyelet pattern to work with the triangle increases. It was half done when I went to bed last night. Late this morning I found the needles to it in 1 place and the scarf in another, and ended up taking out 6 rows trying to get it back on the needles properly (I HATE frogging lace! )

And while I was working on that, I got 2 more soaker orders (although, I am *still* waiting on measurements for one of them)

Here's the yarn:

It's purewool, the colorway is called Blauer Reiter. Sooo beautiful!

So, I've decided I needed to keep a log of my future projects for times when I *THINK* I have nothing to knit

Check out my new trackers over there ------------------>

Aren't they cool? They are from indigirl though I made up a few of my own too :)

Soakers!

Well I haven't updated my blog in ages. I got distracted by things, I guess

I have been working on my original soaker and longies patterns. So far I only have a few pictures.

This is a toddler sized soaker in 100purewool from Uruguay (the SOFTEST wool I've ever felt). The colorway is Ontono Fantasia.

It is knit in the round with a pleated waistband (sort of a modified Curly Purly waistband), short rows in the back, and I grafted the seam at the crotch.

This is another soaker, a little bigger, from the same yarn, in the colorway Fiesta. I gave this one rolled cuffs. The ends aren't woven in because the intended recipient hasn't tried them on yet.

Here's a picture of the back, you can see the short rows if you look *really* close
And here's Victoria's Longies, in the colorway Antonella.

Detail:

Well I did it

Well after switching to Team Chocolate, and after much waffling on my part, I finally frogged all the way back to the beginning of the color work and re-did it with the black as the lower (left hand) strand

I am SO glad I did! The lines look so much cleaner now. Who would think it would make that much of a difference? Whew! I'm glad I didn't take it all out for nothing! I'm not sure how well you can tell from the pictures, partly because the before picture is washed out, but trust me, it looks better :)

I know it doesn't look like I've done all that much, but you gotta remember I have knitted it all twice lol. And that I designed that Josephine's Knot myself.

Also, that I had 2 kids with birthday parties and cakes to decorate this week.

And that you cannot do colorwork and watch Survivor at the same time.

I think I've almost mastered knitting with my right hand now, too. I finally figured out how to wrap without letting go of the right hand needle, or feeling like I'm going to drop it. It's still much slower than my left, but it feels like something I can manage.

Woohoo, gold medal here I come!

To knit or frog? That is the question

Well I am making good progress, but I can't decide if it's the way I want it or not.

This project is my first attempt at stranding, so I am trying out some different ways of holding the yarn.

Normally I am a continental knitter, and not a particularly fast one (I think I'm about 33-36 stitches per minute for the really crazy among you who care about such things - I read Elizabeth Zimmermann say she was about 45 and she thought she was not that fast.. ha! that sounds fast to me)

I can hold both yarns in my left hand and pick them each individually, but I find I am having to often let go of them both to readjust them. I can hold one in each hand, and pick the pattern and throw the background. This is also workable, but slow. I'm just not much of a thrower. I guess I need to practice throwing.

I can't decide which method is better at this point.

But here's my dilemma.

I know that you need to carry the background color over and the pattern color under, that's what I've been doing. The problem is I think I should have switched them in this case. I'm afraid what I'm calling my background isn't looking enough like a line.

(excuse the overexposed picture my DH took)

Can you see how the black outline is broken and not that smooth?

Maybe I should make a swatch of the pattern each way (but wah, I don't want to.... and can you make a swatch of just 1 repeat? Do you just pull the yarn back across? ) I definitely would rather frog than finish the project and not be happy with it.

I really can't decide what to do with it. I'm a little more than half way done with the stranding part and then it's an easy project to finish, just plain stockinette.

decisions, decisions...

What needles are you?

interchangeable
You are interchangeable.
Fun, free, and into everything, you've got every eventuality covered and every opportunity just has to be taken. Every fiber is wonderful, and every day is a new beginning. You are good at so many things, it's amazing, but you can easily lose your place and forget to show up. They have row counters for people like you!

What kind of knitting needles are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Hmm I dunno. I don't even like interchangable needles LOL. But the rest of it seems sorta true. Love that yarn, though!
